STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Milford man found himself behind bars after taking the name of a road a little too literally.
Om October 4, 2025 at approximately 4:32 a.m., a Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputy responded to Forest Lane Road for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, the deputy found a Ford about 40 yards into the woods.

The driver, identified as Mathew Trego, told deputies he accidentally went off the road and, instead of braking, pressed the accelerator.
Deputies noted Trego showed strong signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and the smell of alcohol.
When asked about his drinking, Trego admitted he “knew he was going to jail” and wanted to be honest, stating he had consumed two whiskey drinks and three beers at a house party earlier in the night.

Trego, 32, was charged with driving under the influence, third offense within five years.
He was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond.
