CULPEPER, Va. — A 22-year-old Culpeper man died after crashing his car during a pursuit early Saturday, Oct. 31, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred at 3:11 a.m. on Route 522, also known as Sperryville Pike, near Deer Ridge Road in Culpeper County.
Police said a Culpeper County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a 2012 Dodge Charger for traveling 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, having no license plates and suspected impaired driving.
The driver refused to stop and accelerated to more than 100 mph, prompting a pursuit, police said. The deputy then lost sight of the car.
The Charger went off the right side of the road in a slight curve, struck a driveway, became airborne and hit a tree, police said.
The driver, Jerry Montiel-Sanchez was ejected. He was taken to an area hospital, where he died.
The crash remains under investigation. The medical examiner’s office is conducting toxicology testing.
