
CULPEPER, Va. — A man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash that caused a utility pole and gas station canopy to collapse.
According to a Culpeper Police Department (CPD) media release, the incident occurred August 18, 2026.
At about 3:23 p.m., police responded to the area of Orange Road and Germanna Highway at after receiving a report of a vehicle striking a utility pole.
A preliminary investigation found that the vehicle left the roadway near a business, crossed the centerline and struck the pole.
The impact caused the pole to fall onto the canopy at C&C Shell, which then collapsed.

The driver, identified as David Green, 71, of Culpeper, was taken to UVA Culpeper Medical Center for treatment.
Officers developed information during the investigation indicating that Green may have been impaired at the time of the crash.
According to CPD, Green was arrested at the hospital.
