FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. — A desperate search for a missing 4-year-old boy brought neighbors and a sheriff’s deputy racing into a Fauquier County pond in a heroic effort to save his life.
The boy’s death was reported by Rappahannock News.
The incident began about 10:15 a.m. August 17, 2026 when the Fauquier County Emergency Communications Center received three calls within 10 minutes, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.
The first caller reported seeing a young child walking across his property on security camera footage.
The boy’s parents then reported him missing.
A third caller, who lived several hundred yards away, reported seeing a young child jump into a pond.
A sheriff’s deputy who had responded to the first address immediately drove to the pond, where several men were already searching for the boy. The deputy entered the water and organized an underwater search.
Minutes later, one of the men found the boy in several feet of water.
The child was carried to shore, where the deputy began CPR.
Emergency medical personnel continued lifesaving efforts before taking the boy to UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center.
He was later transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he remained on life support until his death.
