STAUNTON, Va. — A Staunton man was arrested after authorities said he fled from a deputy while on a stolen motorcycle.
An Augusta County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop the motorcycle on Route 262 on Aug. 20 after seeing the driver pass vehicles across a double yellow line, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy activated the vehicle’s emergency equipment, but the motorcyclist refused to stop and continued onto Shutterlee Mill Road toward Staunton, authorities said.
The motorcycle later crashed on Shutterlee Mill Road, and the driver fled on foot. The deputy pursued him to the Engleside Apartments, where he was taken into custody.
Authorities identified the driver as Adam Tyler Bodge, 27, of Staunton. The motorcycle had been reported stolen from Fairfax County, while its license plate had been reported stolen from Harrisonburg, according to the sheriff’s office.
Bodge suffered a leg injury in the crash and was taken by the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad to Augusta Health. He was medically cleared and released.
Bodge was charged with felony eluding law enforcement, reckless driving, obstruction of justice, driving without a license, possession of a stolen motorcycle and possession of a stolen license plate.
He was arrested following his release from the hospital and taken to Middle River Regional Jail, where he was being held without bond.
The Staunton Police Department is investigating the crash.
