STAFFORD, Va. — A Woodbridge man was arrested on a drunken driving charge early Saturday after police received reports of a vehicle failing to maintain its lane.
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy located the vehicle near Travis Lane and Garrisonville Road shortly after 12:44 a.m. and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver showed signs of impairment, including glassy eyes and the odor of alcohol on his breath, authorities said. He acknowledged consuming alcohol earlier in the day.
After field sobriety tests were administered, the driver declined to provide a breath sample at the scene and was arrested.
A breath test later administered at the sheriff’s office showed his blood alcohol concentration was above the legal limit.
The driver was identified as Jorge Alberto Varela Velasquez, 49. He was charged with driving under the influence and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.
