STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A late-night trip through a drive-through ended with criminal charges for a local man on Saturday.
According to a media statement from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the initial incident occurred September 6, 2025.
At approximately 11:26 p.m., two SCSO deputies responded to the McDonald’s at 545 Ferry Road for a reported hit-and-run.
According to the media statement, a Toyota had rear-ended a Mazda occupied by a female driver in the drive-thru line before attempting to leave.
The victim told deputies she was waiting to place her order when the Toyota struck her from behind.
The driver, apparently struggling with the gear shift, struck her vehicle two more times before speeding out of the lot.
The victim managed to snap a photo of the license plate, which led the deputies to the suspect’s residence.
When they arrived, they found the Toyota parked in the driveway. Suddenly, the suspect tried to drive across his own lawn to escape.
The man proceeded to stumble out of the car and attempted to enter his home, ignoring the deputy’s commands.
Unable to unlock the door, he resisted the deputy’s attempts to detain him but was eventually taken into custody.
The driver was identified as Brandon Edgell, 47.
Deputies reported clear signs of intoxication, and Edgell admitted to drinking “two beers.”
He was charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, eluding police, and obstruction of justice.
Edgell was transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held on a $5,000 secured bond.
