
HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia high school teacher and coach died Friday night after he was run over by a pickup truck after a prank went horribly wrong.
Jason Hughes, 40, a math teacher and coach at North Hall High School, died after the incident, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said five 18-year-olds went to Hughes’ home Friday night and threw toilet paper into trees on the property.
Hughes confronted the group as they got into vehicles and began driving away.
Authorities said Hughes tripped and fell before being run over by one of the pickup trucks.
He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
The sheriff’s office identified those involved as Jayden Ryan Wallace, Elijah Tate Owens, Aiden Hucks, Ana Katherine Luque and Ariana Cruz.
All five were charged with criminal trespass and littering on private property.
Wallace was additionally charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and reckless driving.
Hall County Schools has not confirmed whether any of those arrested were students.
Hughes’ wife teaches geometry at North Hall High School. He also leaves behind two children.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support Hughes’ family. As of mid-day Sunday, more than $145,000 had been raised.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
