FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A teaching assistant has been arrested after being accused of inappropriate behavior toward a female middle school student.
According to a media release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the investigation began when a “courageous young student at Conway Elementary School” came forward with allegations on March 18, 2025.
Following the report, a School Resource Officer initiated an investigation, and the SCSO Special Victims Unit took over.
Eric Van Orden, a paraprofessional from Stafford, was arrested at Conway Elementary School, located at 105 Primmer House Drive, on March 19.
Investigators discovered that Van Orden, 56, had secretly taken inappropriate photos and videos of unsuspecting juvenile students. As a result, he faces 19 felony charges for unlawful creation of an image of another, as well as one misdemeanor charge for the same offense.
Van Orden is currently being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
The SCSO acknowledges that parents and community members may have numerous questions and is committed to providing answers as soon as possible. The department is collaborating with Stafford County Public Schools to ensure that affected students receive appropriate support services.
