FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A connection made during National Night Out helped Fairfax County police identify a man now facing 18 charges in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts from vehicles in the Reston area.
Detectives attended National Night Out events throughout Reston on August 4, 2026. Police said a community member who spoke with a detective later provided surveillance video showing a man entering an unlocked vehicle.
Investigators identified the man as Junior Gonzales-Coello, 31, who has no fixed address. Detectives subsequently linked him to similar incidents in the Reston Police District and obtained warrants for his arrest, according to police.
Officers found Gonzales-Coello behind a building in the 11900 block of Bowman Towne Drive at approximately 2 a.m. Aug. 18 and took him into custody.
Police said officers found an AR-15-style rifle and magazines among his belongings. Investigators determined the firearm had been stolen approximately one hour earlier after Gonzales-Coello allegedly entered a vehicle and an open garage in the 1900 block of Crescent Park Drive.
Gonzales-Coello was charged with four counts of vehicle trespassing; three counts each of burglary and grand larceny; two counts each of vehicle tampering, petit larceny and carrying a concealed weapon; and one count each of larceny from a motor vehicle and possession of a Schedule I or II drug.
Five outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction were also served. Gonzales-Coello was being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
