STEPHENS CITY, Va. — Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) responded to the 5000 block of Main Street for a report of a possible shooting into a dwelling.
An investigation determined that an unknown individual or individuals may have fired a projectile through a window of the building.
No suspect or vehicle descriptions were available from witnesses at the scene.
Video surveillance later showed a window shattering at approximately 8:13 p.m. on January 31, 2026, as a pickup truck was passing by.
Similar incidents were reported in Front Royal and Warren County, where a suspicious pickup truck was also observed in the area around the time of the damage.
The Front Royal Police Department accessed license plate reader data and identified a possible suspect based on vehicle registration information.
The vehicle was traced to a Frederick County address, but deputies were initially unable to locate the truck or its registered owner.
Investigators obtained search warrants for the vehicle and the associated residence.
Before the warrants were executed on February 2, deputies located the vehicle in motion and made contact with the driver.
Evidence of possible involvement in the incidents was found inside the vehicle, and the driver provided statements confirming his involvement, according to authorities.
Investigators believe additional individuals may be connected to a series of vandalism incidents involving as many as eight properties across four jurisdictions.
No charges have been filed in Frederick County pending the completion of investigations by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Strasburg Police Department.
According to the FCSO, no charges have been filed, authorities said no suspect information will be released at this time.
