
WAYNESBORO, Va. — A local teen is facing charges after allegedly fleeing police and crashing into another vehicle, leaving a man seriously injured.
According to a Waynesboro Police Department (WPD) media release, officers twice attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed around 1 a.m. February 14, 2026.
The first attempt occurred in the 2600 block of West Main Street, followed by a second attempt in the 500 block of West Main Street.
WPD said the driver failed to stop and continued eastbound on East Main Street at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of East Main Street and North Delphine Avenue before colliding with a vehicle driven by a 56-year-old Augusta County man.
The driver of the fleeing vehicle was identified as Trayton Michael Rose, 19. Rose was transported to Augusta Health with minor injuries.
Rose was initially charged with one count of § 18.2-266: Driving Under the Influence (Misdemeanor).
After a subsequent investigation, on February 15, 2026, Rose faced six additional alleged offenses.
• 1 count of misdemeanor driving without insurance (Va. Code § 46.2-707)
• 2 counts of misdemeanor reckless driving (Va. Code § 46.2-852)
• 2 counts of felony disregarding signal by law-enforcement officer to stop; eluding police (Va. Code § 46.2-817)
• 1 count of felony maiming, etc., of another resulting from driving while intoxicated (Va. Code § 18.2-51.4)
The other driver was transported to UVA Medical Center with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
