
NELSON COUNTY, Va. — Two people were rescued after slipping on ice and sliding down a steep embankment.
The Wintergreen Fire & Rescue Department Technical Rescue Team responded to a call on January 31, 2026 after a person slipped on ice and slid down a steep embankment into a wooded area in the northern section of Nelson County.

According to officials, a bystander who attempted to help the individual also slipped and became a second patient.
Both infividuals sustained minor injuries.
A total of 10 Technical Rescue Team members responded.
Rockfish Medic 57 transported one patient from the scene.

The incident also involved coordination with the Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
This was one of two slip and fall technical rescue calls handled by Wintergreen crews within two days.
