
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. — A Culpeper man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly leading Virginia State Police (VSP) on a high-speed pursuit.
VSP attempted to stop a 2014 Dodge Challenger for speeding at about 9:30 p.m. February 11, 2026.. 11 on northbound Route 17.
The driver refused to stop and turned onto School House Road, where the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed and traveled on the wrong side of the roadway.
The Challenger later turned onto Remington Road and reached speeds of about 100 mph, police said.
Authorities said the vehicle lost control and struck a guardrail.
A state police vehicle then moved in front of the Challenger to contain itThe Challenger subsequently struck the patrol vehicle in an apparent attempt to flee.
The driver, identified as Thomas J. Shumaker Jr., 26, was taken into custody.
Shumaker was charged with felony eluding, assault on a law enforcement officer, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I/II drugs, speeding, reckless driving and failure to signal.

A search of the vehicle, conducted with assistance from the Blue Ridge Narcotics and Gang Task Force, recovered 3.9 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, VSP said.
The incident remains under investigation.
