
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Quantico man was arrested on Valentine’s Day after allegedly driving under the influence, eluding deputies and possessing a concealed firearm while intoxicated,
According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), a deputy was traveling west on Morton Road near West Ridge Court when a large truck approached at a high rate of speed with both driver-side wheels in the deputy’s lane at approximately 2:53 a.m.
The officer swerved to avoid a collision and activated emergency equipment in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver failed to pull over and continued at high speeds before turning into a driveway on Slusher Court, according to the SCSO.
Deputies made contact with the driver, who displayed signs of intoxication, including glassy, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol, authorities said.
Two large cans of alcohol were observed in the vehicle’s center console cupholders. Deputies also located a firearm concealed inside the center console.
After field sobriety tests were administered, the driver was taken into custody.
Benjamin Wade, 20, was charged with driving under the influence; driving after illegally consuming alcohol; possessing a concealed weapon while intoxicated; drinking while driving; felony eluding; reckless driving; failure to maintain lane; failure to signal; and underage possession of alcohol.
