
SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 95.
The crash was reported at approximately 8:30 a.m. Dec. 2, 2025 on southbound I-95 near the 120-mile marker.
Police said a 2018 Nissan Pathfinder hydroplaned on wet pavement, ran off the left side of the interstate, struck a guardrail, spun and collided with a 2020 Toyota Highlander.
The Highlander was then struck from behind by a 2019 Volvo VNL tractor-trailer.
A passenger in the Highlander, Andrea Vernot, 64, sustained serious injuries and died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at an area hospital, police said.
A second passenger in the Highlander, Mark A. Vernot, 61, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The driver of the Highlander, Matthew J. Vernot, 31, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was not injured.
Police said all occupants of the Highlander were wearing seat belts.
The driver of the Nissan, Isis J. Torres Ramirez, 48, of Lutz, Florida, was not injured.
The driver of the tractor-trailer also was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
