WARREN COUNTY, Va. — Several rescue crews responded to a serious crash in the northern portion of Shenandoah National Park on Monday.
According to Warren County Fire and Rescue (WCFR), the incident occurred October 20, 2025.
At approximately 7:50 a.m., WCFR was dispatched to milepost 8 on Skyline Drive for a motor vehicle crash with multiple victims trapped. Upon arrival, Battalion Chief 1 located a four-door sedan off the roadway with significant damage.
Two occupants self-extricated before fire and EMS crews arrived, while two others remained in the vehicle.
At the time of the incident, WCFR was already managing multiple active calls. The combination of ongoing emergencies and the need for additional personnel at the crash scene led to the department being placed on “No/Limited Units Available” status. This triggered an “all-call” for available volunteers to report to their stations.
Additional ambulances and resources were requested.
Responding units included:
Medic 1 (Front Royal)
Medic 4 (Linden)
Ambulance 3 (South Warren)
Ambulance 6 (Shenandoah Farms)
Engine 1 (Front Royal)
Rescue Squad 1 (Front Royal)
Truck 1 (Front Royal)
Battalion Chief 1

EMS personnel immediately treated and transported the two patients already outside of the vehicle, while another provider entered the car to begin care for the remaining victims.
Firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to free both trapped patients, who were then transferred to waiting ambulances.
Due to the severity of the driver’s injuries, air medical transport was requested from AirCare 4 – Front Royal.
To ensure a safe landing zone, Truck 1 temporarily closed Skyline Drive at the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center.
In total, four patients were transported:
- Two by ground to Winchester Medical Center
- One by ground to Warren Memorial Hospital
- One by AirCare 4 to Inova Fairfax Hospital
The system returned to normal operating status at approximately 9:30 a.m. as units cleared incidents throughout the county.
