
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Woodbridge man was arrested after deputies recovered a firearm, ammunition, and numerous narcotics during a high-risk traffic stop.
In the early morning hours of Sept. 27, 2025, detectives with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit received information that a subject was driving into the county with a suspended license — and narcotics.
Investigators spotted the suspect’s vehicle, which displayed no front license plate and carried an expired inspection sticker, as it exited I-95 onto Warrenton Road.
Detectives and deputies initiated a high-risk stop at the Wawa located at 9 South Gateway Drive.
Authorities say the say the suspect, indentified as Azon Heywood, initially refused commands to show his hands and was seen digging around inside the vehicle.
After a short standoff, he surrendered and was taken into custody.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of multiple suspected controlled substances, distribution materials, ammunition, and a firearm with a completely obliterated serial number.
Heywood, 32, is charged with transporting controlled substances into Virginia, possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while possessing controlled substances, obstruction of justice, felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, removing a firearm serial number, driving while suspended, improper display of license plate, and expired inspection.
He is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
