
SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — A Stafford man is now behind bars after allegedy spitting on deputies during a disturbance.
Accoding to a media release from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office (SSO), the incident occurred August 23, 2025.
At approximately 9:59 p.m., SSO deputies responded to a residence in the 9600 block of Old Elys Ford Road.
While at the scene, deputies were informed of a male subject yelling behind the property.
The man, later identified as John Calvin Dodson, 39, of Stafford, was found lying between a bush and a log and appeared to be heavily intoxicated.
Deputies placed Dodson under arrest.
Although initially cooperative, he soon became combative, requiring deputies to physically carry him to a patrol vehicle.
At the Magistrate’s Office, authorities say Dodson’s behavior escalated further when he spat on one deputy twice and in the face of another.
Dodson has been charged with being drunk in public and assault on law enforcement.
He was remanded to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
