
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A local man faces multiple charges after deputies say a routine crash response led to the discovery of drugs and evidence of distribution.
According to a medua release from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) the incident occurred Wednesday, August 28, 2025.
Ar approximately 7:14 p.m., a SCSO deputy responded to Raven Road after an automatic crash notification was received. Authorities determined that a Ford had collided with a guardrail.
The deputy made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, which included the driver, a pregnant passenger, and three children.
The driver told deputies he was traveling northbound when he became distracted by an object under his feet, causing him to lose control and strike the guardrail. He admitted he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Although no serious injuries were reported, all three children were transported to a hospital as a precaution. The female passenger sustained minor injuries.

While investigating the crash, a bystander approached the deputy and reported seeing the driver make suspicious movements before discarding an item into nearby brush.
Deputies conducted a search and recovered a backpack. Inside, they found suspected controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and items consistent with distribution.
Documents identifying the driver were also inside the bag. Additional suspected narcotics were located in the vehicle and on the driver’s person.
The driver was identified as Zachary Blake Fields, 25, of Stafford.
Fields was arrested and charged with:
• Possession of controlled substances
• Possession with intent to distribute controlled substances
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Reckless driving
• Three counts of child neglect
• Driving without a seatbelt
Fields was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond.
According to online court documents, fields is due to appear in Stafford General District Court on October 2.
